why Vincent van Gogh drew himself
During Van Gogh's stay in Paris/ France, from about 1886 to 1888, Van Gogh created more than twenty self-portraits. Basically, he created a virtue out of necessity, because since he lacked the financial means for various artistic aids or models, but was enormously determined to always improve his own skills as a figure painter, he himself became his best work of art:
He should have once said:
"In the absence of a model, I deliberately bought a mirror good enough to work after myself".
Although I wanted to transform this masterpiece in my comic style, I wanted to take over Van Gogh's color play a little bit, to preserve the honor of the original. After all, he shaped an entire era. A master of art he was.
