Lima Beans

The lima bean originates from tropical America. It is called "lima bean" because it was exported from Lima, Peru to other countries. While white and green varieties are common, there are some with beautiful patterns, as depicted in this NFT. When lima beans are affected by mite damage, not only the directly damaged plant but also nearby lima bean plants that haven't been directly affected detect aromatic compounds and attract natural predators. Through these aromatic compounds, it has been recognized that lima beans communicate with each other. I was captivated by the lima beans that live beautifully and help each other. A bean enthusiast from Spain shared with me some patterned lima beans, and this year, I grew them myself. Inspired by them, I created a painting and made it into an NFT.
